The two songs of A Lost & Nearly Wordless Book contrast greatly in temperament; one leading us to action despite myriad deterrents, the other hiding quietly away in the face of a new age beckoning. The music was recorded at the close of the sessions that produced Rest & Run, and can be taken as supplementary material to the larger volume.
A Lost & Nearly Wordless Book feels as though it was retrieved from an abandoned house, half filled with sand, or uncovered amidst the staves of a wrecked ship. It seems to come from nowhere, and can be listened to in isolation, but takes on a new meaning when placed in the context of the parent album (between the books, “The Souls” and “The Words” specifically).
This salvaged music is a testament to the spirit of the band, which continues to endure; ever nearing some distant shore, some new light.
